STG series: Matter, Anti-matter, and Dark Matter
by Dr. Wang Qinghai

In our 3rd instalment of Spark The Gap (STG), we are privileged to have invited Dr. Wang Qinghai as the speaker to share on the topic of Matter, Anti-matter, and Dark Matter. In this talk, Dr. Wang approached the mysteries of asymmetry between matter and anti-matter and the long-standing open questions of the hypothetical dark matter with a self-deprecating humor towards the general Physicist. He informed us of the observations suggesting the presence of dark matter such as the unexpected rotational speed of galaxies and effects of gravitational lensing. Despite handful of observations that seemed to fit the theorised dark matter, the nature of the entity remains a puzzle to modern Physicists of today.

Physoc likes to thank all attendees of the event for their participation and support. We also thank the NUS Physics Department for sponsoring STG. Last but not least, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Wang Qinghai for providing us an interesting Physics conversation.

The Video of the Week is a newly introduced feature. Each week, we will highlight a new physics-related video. The selected videos will cover a wide variety of issues, ranging from academic to pedagogical or even introspective in nature. Through these videos, we hope to inspire students, broaden the horizons of their physics knowledge and stimulate thinking and reflection. Stay tuned for more exciting videos in the coming weeks!
