You will get a chance to interact with staff from the physics department, as well as seniors who have had at least 1 year of experience with the NUS Physics curriculum under their belt!

We had invited Professor Richard Breedon, one of the founding members of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) Experiment at CERN, Switzerland. He had talked about the monumental Higg’s Boson Discovery and how the team at CERN discovered it. We hope that you have enjoyed the talk!

Physic Society is holding our annual steamboat dinner to all staff and students of the Physics department for the upcoming Chinese New Year festival!

Steamboat dinners are traditionally a gesture of reuniting. Through this event, Physoc wishes to offer the warmth of company, the resonance of laughter and dearly hopes to promote the interaction of staff and students.

Spend an evening with us on the 23 January to savour a hot pot meal as you catch up with your friends and make your presence a joy to others.

On 27th and 28th October, Science Club organized its annual Halloween event for the Faculty of Science (FoS). Student-led clubs and society under FoS were invited to set up booths along the walkway near the newly opened Science Student’s Hub. The theme for this year’s Halloween was ‘The Last Train’, inspired by the well-received movie ‘Train to Busan’. Apart from the manning of booths, areas around our familiar campus were given a temporary facelift to create an atmosphere befitting of the event.

SMGC is a student-initiated group aimed to help out students with academic needs. Interested freshmen and sophomores will be assigned to a tutor through Whatsapp group. You may post their academic queries or arrange study group sessions on the group chat.

NUS Physics Society is organizing a Physics Orientation Camp (POC) this year for all the potential Physics freshmen! The details are listed below:

Title - The Determinator
Date - 13th-15th July 2016 (Wed - Fri), 3D2N camp
Fee - $28 (early bird sign ups) / $30 (after 30 May)

Why should you sign up for POC'16?
The camp will be a great avenue for you to interact with your other fellow like-minded freshies and make new friends. Additionally, you can expect great fun and games throughout the camp, mixed with an engaging storyline! Your seniors will also be interacting with you and sharing their experiences and advice on life as a physics major in NUS! They will also come back on the day of NUS module bidding to assist you with the confusing bidding process. Lastly, it doubles up for networking with seniors who will be able to guide you when you need help with physics.

Camp Storyline sneak peek:
"Your Race is among one of the few that have been called upon by the Intergalactic Union to retrieve the lost Artifact known as "the Determinator". It will be no easy task. You will be expected to pass stringent tests of ability, escape from challenging situations, solve intricate riddles and venture through the vast uncharted Space. Only then can you hope to find the whereabouts of the Artifact, retrieve it safely, and bring glory to your Race. Yet, nobody knows how the future will unfold, and surprises may await you..."

UTown, Town Plaza

NUS Physoc is participating in BazaaRISE 2015 where we set up a booth, running an interactive (but simple) game that plays on interesting Physics concepts! This year, the game is titled Defying gravity: The Uphill Roller. Participants stand to win prizes, so come on down to U-Town to join us at our booth! We will also be selling our all-time popular Spherical Cat T-shirt.

In addition, we will be having Laser Tag matches and registration is open at the booth! The Laser Tag matches will be on Tuesday, 6 Oct from 6.00pm - 9.00pm at S16-03-07. Do join us with your friends to have tremendous fun! Click here for more information on BazaaRise 2015.
